Aged Citizens in India to Get Gold Coins

Filed under: All Gold, Blog, News — Tags: , , — GoldGuru @ 5:26 am

When it comes to commemorating wedding anniversaries, gold is used to mark fifty years, but these rules do not apply when it comes to celebrating years of life.

A territory in India has decided to honor some of its most mature citizens by giving gold coins to people who live there who are more than 100 years old. The coins will each weigh eight grams and the territory plans to give the coins away at a ceremony. Amazingly enough, this territory will be giving away quite a few gold coins, since they are in the process of reviewing applications from 25 people who have applied for this honor.

We don’t know how big this territory is, but having at least 25 people who are 100 or older is an indication that they are doing something right over there. And so in a way, by honoring its oldest citizens, this territory is also bestowing an honor upon itself. No wonder they want to have a ceremony. If you can boast of that many people who have lived at least a century, that is definitely something to celebrate.

We think that it is great that this area would decide to give away gold coins, but of course we do not expect you to do this. As a gold buyer, we know that you certainly do not want to give any gold coins or any other gold items. We know that you want to sell gold to get cash for gold. And we make it easy for you. After you contact us, we will send you a postage-paid envelope. Simply place the gold items that you want to sell into that envelope and mail it back to us.

Once we have evaluated your gold items, we will let you know just how much cash for gold you can expect to receive. There is no official ceremony, but we are sure that you will not mind; you will be too busy trying to figure out just how to spend all of your cash for gold. You won’t need the ceremony, but you can celebrate in your own quiet way.

Sell Old Gold Jewelry and Simplify Your Life

The advice you hear and read everywhere these days is that you need to shop your own closet to find great outfits and treasures that you likely forget you even had, rather they go out and buy new things. We think this is great advice and it is not just for those who we view as having way too much. Even those of us who lived relatively simplified lives could find even more ways to make the most out of what we already have.

We have some advice along those lines too: why not shop your own home for items you can sell to get money, rather than just look for things that you can wear? When you dig through all that you have, you are sure to find some gold that you can sell to a gold buyer to get cash for gold.

Since everyone is saying that we all need to pare down our belongings, bring less things home and get used to working with what we already have, searching for home for gold items such as old gold earrings, broken gold chains and gold watches that you do not wear, only makes sense. You can get rid of unnecessary clutter in your home and make some cash at the same time.

When you approach this with the mindset that you will be creating space in your home and possibly getting some extra money in the bargain, it will seem like less of a chore. When it comes to gold jewelry, getting rid of the gold items that you no longer want or can no longer use, will make it easier to select from the gold jewelry that you choose of keep. No more rifling through lots of broken gold necklaces or trying to find a gold earring with a match among many. When you sell your gold jewelry to a gold buyer, you are simplifying your life.

The Battle Between Gold Detecting Hobbyists in the UK

In this blog, we have told you on numerous occasions about how people have found both items made of gold–both personal items and items of great historical significance–using metal detectors. Well, in The United Kingdom, some long-time hobbyists with metal detectors are crying foul about the recent surge of interest that some have had in their pastime. People who have been at it for a long time feel as if the new crop of metal detector hobbyists are only in it for the gold and for the cash for gold they can get.

Last summer, an old-timer metal detector hobbyist managed to find a large trove of gold weapons that date back to the days when the ancient Anglo-Saxons roamed Great Britain. According to British law, those who find gold and other treasures using metal detectors have to report these findings, so it is not as if you have find gold in the UK using a metal detector and immediately sell gold to a gold buyer. Still after this large and very important discovery of ancient gold was made, a lot more people wanted to get in on the “fun.”

The lack of fun as a motivation is exactly what angers long-time hobbyists. They say they have been looking for gold treasures for the joy of discovery and the hope that they could illuminate part of history if they found something. Old-timers think that newcomers are greedy and lack a sense of pride in history. And it is likely that many newcomers think that long-time gold detecting hobbyists just do not want to see a lot of competition.

Really, who can say which side is right and which side is wrong? Who among us doesn’t want a little fame, a little fortune and a little cash for gold?

White Gold was Created After WWI

Filed under: All Gold, Gold Jewelry Types — Tags: , , — GoldGuru @ 5:00 am

You may love the elegance of white gold and think of it as a premium item, but did you know that white gold was actually created as replacement for another metal when it was in scarce supply?

People who have their heart set on platinum, but end up buying white gold may understand this. White gold was created after World War I, at a time platinum was not plentiful. Getting platinum was a lot tougher than it had been before and jewelers were looking for something that could give customers the look of platinum without the high cost of platinum.

We don’t know who came up with the idea of white gold, but we can tell you that the idea was to make an alloy of gold that somehow managed to bleach its normal yellow hue. If you were not already aware, this is not an unusual practice since most gold jewelry is made of an alloy. It may be hard to believe, but as metals go, gold is considered to be rather soft. Combining gold with another metal in an alloy makes it so the gold can shaped and so that shape can remain intact.

This is why it is part of a gold buyer’s job to extract the pure gold from any gold objects you give when you sell gold. Alloys are wonderful for making jewelry, but when it comes to selling gold, you cannot include the other metals in the price for gold.

When you contact a gold buyer with old gold jewelry to sell, they will test your gold jewelry first to see how much of it is pure gold and how much of it is other metals. Then, after they have ascertained this information, they will let you know how much cash for gold you can expect.

It’s Not Too Late to Resolve to Get Cash for Gold

We imagine that you never really thought of a gold buyer as a self-help guru, but help does come from unexpected sources. We buy gold objects of all types and change them into cash for gold for you and pure gold for those who need it. Believe it or not, we do know something about transformation. So as we head towards the end of January, we want to ask you-how are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions?

It is okay if you have not quite lived up to those promises you made a few weeks ago. And while we cannot do much to assist you with exercising more or eating less, we can help you clear out some clutter and provide you with a way to get more money that you can put into savings.

When it comes to forming new habits, you really do have to start small. If go through your old and broken jewelry and pick out old gold jewelry that you can sell to get cash for gold, you will be just a little bit closer to having the clear space that you want. True, mismatched gold earrings, broken gold necklaces and old gold chains are not huge items, but you have to start somewhere, right? The satisfaction of knowing that you have begun to clean up some of the debris in your home may inspire you to tacking bigger challenges.

And the cash for gold you get when you sell gold may not be all of the cash you have ever hoped for, but it is certainly better than nothing. It is also much better than having someone take money from you. Saving money, even in the tiniest amounts can have a big impact down the road. When you take the money you get from selling gold and decide to save it, you can transform your clutter into a valuable asset for the future.

The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his Widow were awarded Congressional Gold Medal

Last week we talked about a woman who got her gold wedding band back after she had accidentally given it to a homeless man with some coins she was handing him. We said that while we know that now is a good time to sell gold to a gold buyer, in this case that was one gold item that one would not want to part with because the value of gold changes when the item has great emotional significance.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004, along with his wife Coretta Scott King. Coretta Scott King, who died on 2006 we alive to accept this great honor and see the homage paid to her late husband. The Kings are not the only couple to be honored with a Congressional Gold Medal-Ronald and Nancy Regan were honored with a Congressional Gold Medal in 2002.

The Congressional Gold Medal ranks with the Presidential Medal of Freedom as the highest honor a person can receive from the United States and one does not have to be a U.S. citizen to receive The Congressional Gold Medal is an honor given to a person or persons who acted admirable in the interests of country.

Rather than being a standardized award, the Congressional Gold Medal differs for each recipient or set of recipients. So this means that no two Congressional Gold Medals are alike. Instead, these medals usually bear the likeness(es) of the recipients(s). The medal itself is not made to be worn around ones neck or to adorn clothing; instead it is made to be displayed the way one would display a trophy. However, replicas, often made of bronze, are made and there are fewer restrictions concerning how these bronze versions of the Congressional Gold Medal are displayed.

Homeless Man Returns Gold Ring

We often talk about the value of gold on this blog, reminding you that now is a good time to sell gold because the price of gold has increased as of late. But we do realize that when it comes to cherished family heirlooms, you really cannot put a price on gold. Someone can appraise an item for the amount of pure gold it contains and put a price on it, but sentiment cannot be measured.

A woman from Fredricksburg, VA was reminded of this recently when the gold wedding band that she had accidentally given away was returned to her. Without intending to the Virginia woman gave her gold wedding band to a homeless man along with some coins she had in her purse. She certainly wanted to be generous, but did not want to part with her gold wedding band, a wedding banc that is inscribed with the words “To the love of my life.”

The woman did not realize that her gold wedding band was missing until after she had gotten back to her job. When she realized that she may have given the gold wedding band away with the coins, she went back to where she had seen the homeless man, but he had moved on.

After asking around to see if anyone knew of a man who fit her recollection of the man she’d helped, the woman gave her phone number to someone who said they might be able to help.

That very same night, the man to whom she’d given the coins and the gold wedding band called her on the phone and they two made arrangements for the woman to get her ring back.

Surely the homeless man also knew the value of gold and that he could have gotten a good amount of money if he’d sold the ring to a gold buyer, but he did not do so.

The Proceeds from Donated Gold Coin Do Wonders

Late last year, we told you about how it is customary for some Good Samaritans to drop anonymously drop gold coins into Salvation Army buckets each year during the Christmas holiday season. And of course, this past holiday season was no exception–we heard numerous stories of people who lent the charitable organization a big helping hand by giving so generously.

Do you ever wonder what happens after someone gives away a valuable gold coin like that? Are you sort of cynical with regard to how charitable organizations really use donations? If you are interested in hearing one happy ending associated with one such donation, look no further than the gold coin that was left in a Salvation Army bucket in Summit County, Ohio this past December 17th.

The Salvation Army was able to sell the coin that was minted not too long ago in 1990 for $1500. Although the coin’s face value is $50, it was actually worth many times that amount. Its market value was set at $1,095, however it an act of even greater generosity, the man who bought the Canadian from the Salvation Army paid above the estimated market value.

A spokesperson for the Salvation Army noted that the purchase of the gold coin gave the charitable organization the means to give out 2,500 hot meals to those in need. Now isn’t that a great equation: one gold coin equals 2,500 hot meals!

We can’t give you an estimate of how much cash for gold you can get when you sell gold to a gold buyer, but we can tell you that it may add up to much more than you imagine. We know that some of you would love to give more and help more, but you are financially strapped yourself. You may not think that selling your gold items like broken gold jewelry or gold coins will help someone else, but think of it this way: if you manage to keep yourself afloat, you will make it possible to help someone a little bit now and perhaps even more in the future. You really never know. People may be reading about your acts of generosity the weeks and months to come.

You are Free to Sell Gold Without Restrictions, pt. 2

We wrote earlier about how in ancient times, it was very easy for people to find gold. When explorers from the “Old World” made contact with the peoples of the “New World,” they were amazed at the ease with which people were able to locate and procure gold.

In these days and times most of us are not able to just go outside and find gold. While there are some places that will allow you to pan for gold, they are not plentiful and we have many more rules and regulations about these things than they had in ancient times. On the other hand, people of all walks of life and wear gold and display gold objects without fear. And that is the interesting paradox about our times: Gold is associated with wealth and a certain social standing, yet any and everyone has it, can wear it and can sell gold as they please. Even though the use of gold is much more democratic, the metal has not lost its luster or appeal simply because it is no longer mainly associated with royalty or the ruling class. Although, you probably think it is no big deal,  it is no small feat that you are free to keep your gold or sell it to gold buyer and get cash for gold as you wish without interference.

Yes, gold moves through hands of one person to those of another with ease these days. And when you contact a gold buyer about selling your gold online, the gold will not even pass from your hands to those of another; you will simply send it to the gold buyer through the mail. The postal system is another modern convention that we take for granted, but one that can make it very convenient to sell gold.

You are Free to Sell Gold Without Restriction, pt. 1

There was a time in ancient Egypt, during the days of the pharaohs, when gold was said to be as readily available as dirt. Once a visiting ruler from the Mali empire, which was located in what is now West Africa, came to Egypt and gave away gold in such large amounts that his generous visit made the price of gold in Egypt plummet for at leasta decade in the 14th century.

And if you read accounts of the ancient peoples of Caribbean islands like Quisqueya (now divided into Haiti and the Dominican Republic), people were able to go to certain spots and find gold within minutes. The gold-hungry explorers who descended on this island were amazed and could barely contain their excitement that gold was so readily available.

The interesting paradox about gold in the ancient world was that although it was plentiful and easy to obtain, it was also not necessarily worn by everyone. Depending on the culture, the working class may have had some access to gold, but more often than not, only the wealthy were able to wear and display gold whenever they wished. Someone of low social standing would not have been able to wear gold as freely as someone of a higher class.

And even if they worked on gold as artisans, laborers certainly were not able to sell gold to a gold buyer as they wished. If someone from the working class had gold, it was not likely to be their own and if they were caught attempting to sell gold that was not theirs, they would be serious consequences. No doubt many an ancient jewelry maker indulged in some daydreams about what they would do if the gold they were entrusted to work on was really their own.
