The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his Widow were awarded Congressional Gold Medal

Last week we talked about a woman who got her gold wedding band back after she had accidentally given it to a homeless man with some coins she was handing him. We said that while we know that now is a good time to sell gold to a gold buyer, in this case that was one gold item that one would not want to part with because the value of gold changes when the item has great emotional significance.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004, along with his wife Coretta Scott King. Coretta Scott King, who died on 2006 we alive to accept this great honor and see the homage paid to her late husband. The Kings are not the only couple to be honored with a Congressional Gold Medal-Ronald and Nancy Regan were honored with a Congressional Gold Medal in 2002.

The Congressional Gold Medal ranks with the Presidential Medal of Freedom as the highest honor a person can receive from the United States and one does not have to be a U.S. citizen to receive The Congressional Gold Medal is an honor given to a person or persons who acted admirable in the interests of country.

Rather than being a standardized award, the Congressional Gold Medal differs for each recipient or set of recipients. So this means that no two Congressional Gold Medals are alike. Instead, these medals usually bear the likeness(es) of the recipients(s). The medal itself is not made to be worn around ones neck or to adorn clothing; instead it is made to be displayed the way one would display a trophy. However, replicas, often made of bronze, are made and there are fewer restrictions concerning how these bronze versions of the Congressional Gold Medal are displayed.

The Proceeds from Donated Gold Coin Do Wonders

Late last year, we told you about how it is customary for some Good Samaritans to drop anonymously drop gold coins into Salvation Army buckets each year during the Christmas holiday season. And of course, this past holiday season was no exception–we heard numerous stories of people who lent the charitable organization a big helping hand by giving so generously.

Do you ever wonder what happens after someone gives away a valuable gold coin like that? Are you sort of cynical with regard to how charitable organizations really use donations? If you are interested in hearing one happy ending associated with one such donation, look no further than the gold coin that was left in a Salvation Army bucket in Summit County, Ohio this past December 17th.

The Salvation Army was able to sell the coin that was minted not too long ago in 1990 for $1500. Although the coin’s face value is $50, it was actually worth many times that amount. Its market value was set at $1,095, however it an act of even greater generosity, the man who bought the Canadian from the Salvation Army paid above the estimated market value.

A spokesperson for the Salvation Army noted that the purchase of the gold coin gave the charitable organization the means to give out 2,500 hot meals to those in need. Now isn’t that a great equation: one gold coin equals 2,500 hot meals!

We can’t give you an estimate of how much cash for gold you can get when you sell gold to a gold buyer, but we can tell you that it may add up to much more than you imagine. We know that some of you would love to give more and help more, but you are financially strapped yourself. You may not think that selling your gold items like broken gold jewelry or gold coins will help someone else, but think of it this way: if you manage to keep yourself afloat, you will make it possible to help someone a little bit now and perhaps even more in the future. You really never know. People may be reading about your acts of generosity the weeks and months to come.

Selling Gold is One of the Best Ways to Get Cash Quickly, pt. 2

Earlier in the week, we talked about how our mania for “end of the year lists” never seems to wane, despite the fact that we often roll our eyes at the thought of them.

While it did not make the not the top of many end of the year/end of the decade lists, some financial media outlets have noted that gold represented one of the best ways to have some financial assurance in the past year. They have heralded gold because with the dollars weakness, the price of gold has increased, so those who sought to sell gold had a sure-fire way to get some quick cash for gold when they needed it.

Yes, some people would turn their noses up at selling their gold, but it is a tangible way to get money when you need it. Some people have said that we are turning a corner and that the economic meltdown is going to end soon, but let’s be real: many of us continue to struggle and are not as certain that the end is just around the corner. All around we talk us we hear talk of how important it is to make the most of what you have. Well, of what you have is some gold items, such as broken gold jewelry that you are willing to part with, why not make the most of that and sell it to get cash for gold?

There is absolutely no shame in selling your old gold jewelry and other items to get money for gold when you really need it. Other people can scoff if they like; it is up to you to take care of yourself. Whether you bought the gold for yourself or someone gave it to you as a gift, restoring your finances may be the best present you receive.

What is a Gold Krugerrands?

Filed under: Uncategorized — GoldGuru @ 11:38 am

There are several types of gold coins and just one of the many available on the world market for collecting and purchase is the South African Krugerrand. Although there is no fixed size or weight for many gold coins, gold coins are wonderful collector’s items and excellent investments. The gold Krugerrand is just one of these collectors type gold coins.

The South African Krugerrand was first minted in 1967 as a way to draw the world’s attention to the growing South African gold marketplace. The coins are accepted as legal tender in South Africa, but are not really intended to be currency. Krugerrands fall into a category that is called a medal-coin.

The value of a Krugerrand is determined by the market value of its gold face content. The Krugerrand contains exactly one troy ounce of gold and was the first gold coin to actually certify its precise weight for exchange. By minting the Krugerrand, South Africa gave American gold collectors a way to legally retain gold for collecting and investing purposes.  The United States in 1967 had made the ownership of gold bullion illegal but the laws allowed for the ownership of foreign gold coins to be held by US residents.

The Krugerrand was specifically created to tap this hungry American market for gold coins and became a sought after coin by many Americans who understood the value and investment protection that gold afforded at that time and affords today. During the 70’s and 80’s many countries banned the import of Krugerrands due to apartheid in South Africa. However now due to political changes in South African the Krugerrand is now widely collected and exchanged worldwide.

Today Krugerrands are produced in a variety of sizes and sold at premiums no higher than 1% of the market price of gold. This is a change from the original selling model which allowed for Krugerrands to be sold at up to 5% over the market price of gold.

Other popular gold medal-coins to collect and use for investment are the American Eagle gold coin and the British Sovereign, and Australian Sovereign.

Silent Film Star’s Unique Gold Ring Goes to Auction

Filed under: Uncategorized — GoldGuru @ 5:00 am

As we mentioned earlier this week while discussing gold pacifiers, there is a time to keep gold and a time to sell gold. No matter how much we like a gold item, we may find there comes a time when we want to part with it and accept cash for gold in its place.

In December, a gold ring that once belonged to a famous actress is going to be auctioned. After the actress died, her step-son inherited a gold ring that Marion Davies, a silent film star during the 1930s, received from William Randolph Hearst.

It is interesting that the gold ring that Hearst, who was Davies’s lover at one point, gave his beloved a masculine ring. The ring is not a delicate testament to feminine beauty, but a gold ring that was designed to be worn by a gentleman of means.

Who knows what exactly the ring meant to this pair of lovers? After all, the ring was made a jewel that came from a brooch that had been Davies. The meaning of this unique piece of jewelry may have died with Hearst and Davies.

We do know that while you perhaps do not want to sell gold if it would break your heart or cause you serious regret, you probably have some pieces of old gold jewelry that you really do not treasure all that much; you just have not gotten around to getting rid of it yet. A gold buyer can help you with that, making it easy and convenient to sell your gold. Contact an online gold buyer and they will send you everything you need to get your gold evaluated so you can get cash for gold.

Museum Gets Grant for New Gallery to Display Ancient Gold

Filed under: Articles, Gold Jewelry Types, Uncategorized — Tags: , , — GoldGuru @ 5:00 am

A British museum was recently awarded a grant that will allow the museum to start a new gallery that will exhibit rare objects of gold that hearken back to the Bronze Age. Some of the gold jewelry, gold weapons and gold armor that will one day be displayed in this new gallery were found on the Salisbury Plain, which is not far from Stonehenge.

Among some of the gold items that were found on Salisbury Plain were what one museum official said could be considered as Britain’s first crown jewels. Researchers believe that that the gold and other valuable items were once the property of someone of great significance. They cannot say for certain if this person was a military leader, a religious leader or royalty. It is quite possible that this person was all three of those things. The museum has wanted to let the public view these items, but did not have a proper space to do so. Perhaps once the public sees it, they will get even more feedback on just who the owner of all of this gold may have been.

Some of you may have gold items and you cannot exactly say where they have come from but you are not interested in putting them on display nor do you want to wear them. This is why you hid these gold items out of sight in drawers or left them in the attic. At the same time, you probably wish you could get a grant or some magic influx of cash…well, we cannot give you a grant, but we can give you cash for gold. When you decide to sell gold that you have forgotten about for years to a gold buyer, you can get money for gold as a reward.

Australia May Surpass U.S. in Gold Production

News outlets recently reported that the land down under is set to surge ahead of the United States when it comes to gold production this year. You may not have event realized that the U.S. is a top producer of gold, but it is. And now, if reports are true, Australia is going to be producing even more gold that the United States. If this were to happen, that would mean that the only country that would produce more gold than Australia would be China.

The increase in gold production is a result of an increased demand for gold. More and more people are looking to buy gold. The price of gold rose this past week and some predict that the price for an ounce of gold will rise even more next year. A gold buyer keepa a close eye on the value of gold and you can too. That way you will know when is a good time to trade in your gold so that you can get the cash for gold you need. However, that does not mean that you should spend your days trying to see which day has the best price for gold. Especially if you think that getting some cash for gold could really help you out of a difficult situation.

Bearing all of this in mind, anytime is a good time to sell gold if you are looking for some extra cash. After all, they say that one should sell high, right? Unlike mining companies, which have complex machinery and operations, you will not have to mount a huge enterprise to extract gold. You may only have to open a drawer or check in your jewelry box to see that unused or broken gold jewelry is ripe for the taking.

Gold Ring Found Underwater After 52 years

Earlier this week, we discussed a writer’s joy at unexpectedly finding a gold coin while staying at an historic inn. Well, her joy may pale in comparison to one man’s happiness that the gold ring that he lost 52 years ago was actually found.

The man, who is 92 years old, lost his gold class ring from Notre Dame while swimming in 1957. He was a part of Notre Dame’s graduating class of 1940. We’re not saying the people don’t treasure their class rings now, but it just seems as class rings carried much more meaning to people who went to college at a time when fewer people had the opportunity. The 92-year-old said he felt a pang at the loss of his gold ring every time he looked at the hand where he used to wear it. He felt such pride that he wore that ring in place of a wedding ring during his 66 year marriage and his wife understood. She assured him that the ring would be found before she died two years ago.

A father-son duo that have made a hobby of finding people’s lost treasures found her gold ring and tracked down its owner. The father, who started underwater diving when he retired, is the one who find gold rings and other treasures. His son, an attorney, has the task of locating the owners and returning their property to them. The gold ring that belonged to the Notre Dame graduate was in surprisingly good condition, considering all the years that it had been under water.

Of course all gold rings and all gold jewelry is not so treasured or sought after as that mans’ Notre Dame class ring. If you have gold that you want to part with rather than hold on to, why not sell it to a gold buyer? Selling gold does not mean that you do not recognize the value of gold. In fact, it shows that you are aware that if you are not using it, you might as well get cash for gold so it can be used in some other capacity.

Metal Detector Used to Find Gold Ring Worn for More than Half a Century

A couple who have been married for 68 years were very grateful when someone called in a man with a metal detector to find the wife’s gold ring.

While waiting at a bus stop in Florida with her 92-year-old husband, an 88-year-old woman lost her gold wedding ring, as she was trying to swat away overgrown grass. She got down on her knees in the grass to try to find the gold ring and even went to a gas station to get scissors that she could use to cut away some of the grass. Her husband, took a different approach: he told her that he would be her another one. But his wife really wanted to have her gold ring back.

The lost gold ring had diamond studs and it was not the ring the man had given his wife when they first got married. When they first got married, the wife wore an unadorned gold ring. They married four month after being introduced by a mutual friend when she was 19. When they were married for two years, the husband got a salary increase because the wife got pregnant: he got $2 more dollars because of his growing family and his pay went from $29 to $31.

After 12 years of marriage the pair decided they had enough money to get the wife a new gold wedding ring–one that was a little more decorative. Wonder what they did with the first gold ring? The could have  decided to sell it to a gold buyer to get cash for gold? Possibly.

Part of the reason that the couple had more money to spare was that the wife was now working also. She was a seamstress for a famous designer and since she did not want to be parted from her new gold ring, she wore it on the job. That gold ring stayed put for years. The wife was wearing that gold wedding ring when she worked on the outfit that Nancy Regan wore to Ronald Reagan’s first presidential inauguration. She had worn that gold ring through many years and could not bear to give up the search, but the couple had to catch their bus and so they returned home. The man with the metal detector personally delivered the gold ring that had taken him ten minutes to find.

If You’re Shy, Sell Your Gold Jewelry Online

Recently, I read an article about a woman who said she felt intimidated by the idea of going to a jeweler to sell gold. Although there have been a lot of articles in the media lately about people hosting gold parties in their homes to sell gold and earn cash for gold, this is not something that every would feel comfortable doing. The woman who did want to stand in front of a jeweler with her gold jewelry might not feel any better about going to someone’s house and handing over her gold jewelry for appraisal while other people watched either. And if she did not want to have to face a jeweler in that person’s shop, she is not likely to want to host a party to sell gold either.

Even if you do not feel any particular shame about taking your gold jewelry to a gold buyer, there are many reasons why you may not want to have a gold party either. If the point of selling gold is to get cash for gold, doesn’t a party kind of defeat the purpose? You have to clean the house, which takes time, and we all know that time in money. Then you have to prepare or buy something for people to eat (because surely you can’t expect people to come over to a party and not serve them anything.) And most important of all—you have to procure the services of a reputable gold buyer. After all, you cannot let just anyone into your home.

This is why it is much easier to sell your gold to an online gold buyer. There is no need to feel ashamed or intimidated. And you won’t have to face (or feed) anyone. There will be no need to clean the house, hang up coats or to smile and play host or hostess.

After you make the initial (painless) contact, the online gold buyer will send you a postage-paid envelope. Place your gold jewelry and other gold items into the envelope, seal it, and send it on its way. That is the bulk of the work that you have to do. Isn’t that easy? The gold buyer will evaluate your gold and tell you just how much cash for gold you can expect to receive.
