Is Kate Moss Worth Her Weight in Gold?

Later this fall, visitors to the British Museum will be able to gaze at a whole lot of gold. A sculptor, who is also from Britain, has made a 110-pound statue made of gold. The statue has been given an estimated value of $2.8 million.

So what did this artist use 110 pounds of gold to make? In this case, it was used to make a statue of fashion model Kate Moss. Previously, in 2006, this artist made a bronze statue, also of Moss. That bronze statue was called Sphinx and this new statue made of gold is called Siren. Both statues depict Moss in a yoga pose. No one knows exactly why this artist decided to use bronze and gold to sculpt the same model twice.

To put it mildly, one hundred and ten pounds is quite a substantial amount of gold to be turned into a statue. But who are we to judge? If you get a hold of that much gold, you can do what you wish with it.

Here is one suggestion for you if you have gold, be it 110 pounds or 1 gold necklace: selling gold. Gold is nice to look at and very decorative, but there are times when you can put it to better use. Selling your gold to a gold buyer means you’ll have something more utilitarian to look at: cash for gold. The money you get when you sell your gold won’t draw visitors like the gold statue of Kate Moss, but it may help you to fund some travel and visiting of your own.

Gold Medals

We all know about Michael Phelps’s amazing run at this year’s Olympics–eight gold medals! But did you ever think that there may have been a time when people were awarded gold medals, not for athletic achievements, but for academics? There is a museum in Massachusetts that has a gold medal that you’ve probably never heard of. This medal was made in the year 1872 and it is engraved. It is a medal from what is presumably an all-female school-the Lafayette Female Academy. It is not 100% certain what someone had to do to earn this gold medal, but the museum’s curator has a few ideas. It is thought that the gold medal was given as a reward for some kind of rhetorical endeavor or speech.

Earning gold for giving speeches or swimming really fast is good, but aren’t you glad to know that your gold can earn you cash? when you sell your old gold jewelry, your scrap gold or your gold coins, you can get cash for gold. And you won’t even have to compete. Just get you gold to a gold buyer, who will evaluate your gold’s worth and give you money for gold.

You can even sell dental gold— bridgework, caps, crowns and fillings —something you may have “earned” at one point by eating too many sweets. Well, now you can profit from your sweet tooth (and the pain of having it filled) by selling dental gold the same way you sell gold jewelry, gold bars and gold coins.

Gold is Good for Your Health (and Wallet)

As we have noted in other blogs, scientists are always looking for new ways to use gold nanoparticles. These miniscule gold particles they are not visible to the naked eye.  Researchers are looking for new ways to use gold compounds in the treatment of HIV and cancer and other conditions. Just recently, some scientists in Australia have come across gold nanoparticles in nature.

Now, it seems they have found an old way that gold nanoparticles were used. Researchers at Queensland University of Technology have concluded that when people painted stained-glass window with gold in medieval times, there were doing more than beautifying sanctuaries. They were also purifying the air.

Coming into contact with the sun’s rays allows these tiny particles of gold to rid the air of pollutants. However, it should be noted that when these windows were painted, it is likely that the churches did not have this purpose in mind. Again, they were thinking about decoration, not about pollutants. However, scientists say that the gold nanoparticles acted as photo-catalytic air purifiers.

Just think, gold painted onto windows helped to make the air less full of germs! So gold is not just for adornment. It has some very practical uses. You can make use of gold to change your financial outlook when you sell gold and get cash for gold. That gold jewelry that you are no longer using to enhance outfits can be out to other uses. Instead of letting it decorate your dresser or beautify the inside of a drawer, why not sell your gold?

A Battle for Sunken Gold Treasure

There may soon be a battle over shipwrecked gold. This battle will probably be a legal one and not one fought on the high seas on a battleground, however.

A U.S. company discovered gold worth millions of dollars, but just because you discover a gold treasure doesn’t mean you get to keep it when a sunken ship is involved.

Spain has staked its claim on the gold, saying the ship is Spanish ship. The ship, La Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, is reported to be a Spanish warship that sunk in 1804. And here is where the plot thickens…

The government of Peru has also filed a claim to assert its right to the gold treasure. Peru says that the Spanish ship that sunk all those years ago was carrying gold from Peru. So who should get the gold? Who knows?

The U.S. company that found the sunken gold (estimated value $500 million) will likely argue that since the gold has been unclaimed for so many years, it belongs to the finder. In fact, they said that Peru’s claim really raises the stakes. It also presents some interesting historical issues–what really belongs to the colonizer and what really belongs to the countries they colonized?

Luckily, you do not have to worry about any of these things. When you find “lost” or forgotten gold in your house, you can claim it for yourself. Then you can take that gold to a gold buyer and let them give you cash for gold. It may not be $500 million, but the money you get from selling your gold will be all yours.

Gold Goes Through Trial by Fire

When it comes to measuring gold content the most accurate and wideley favored method is the fire assay. In this method someone scraped off a very small but from the gold object. This scraping is then wrapped in lead foil and silver is added to it. This combination is put into an extremely hot oven or furnace. The heat is so intense that it actually dissolves the silver. What is left is pure gold. This gold is them weighed.

Coming in second to the Fire Assay in accuracy in measuring gold is Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry. There is no furnace used in this method. Instead, a small sampling of a gold object is dissolved in acid and the resulting substance is analyzed in an Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer. This instrument is rather costly. So not only is this method not as accurate, it costs quite a lot more than the Fire Assay. One advantage that Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry does have over Fire Assay is that it can measure the other metals that are alloyed with the gold.

The good news for you, however, is that you don’t have to do any of these things. When you want to sell gold, it is not up to you to test for the gold’s purity. If you sell it to an online gold buyer, they will send you what you need and then you can leave the testing up to them. They will tell you how much your gold is worth and give you cash for gold and you won’t have to lift a finger.

Put Your Gold to Good Use

Not to get too philosophical, but gold has various life cycles. Just as people go through different phases and play different roles at different times of life, gold does the same. Gold is very malleable and you can benefit greatly from it in different forms.

At one point, gold is sitting as an untouched natural resource. Then, after it is mined, it can become any number of things–a gold bar, gold bullion, gold nuggets, gold overlay, gold coins, gold jewelry or even edible gold.

It can be used as an investment or worn as an adornment. When gold was used as the basis for currencies throughout the world, it served as the backbone for economies.

In addition to its commercial uses, gold is used as a catalyst in various chemical processes. When gold is added to certain things, it can speed up chemical reactions and processes, making it possible to do more work, faster.  If you are looking for ways to fill up your bank account more quickly, selling gold is one way to do this.

So where is your gold now? Perhaps it has outlived it usefulness in its current form. If that is the case, it is time to put it to a new use. You can sell your gold and put it back into circulation. For example, once you no longer need your gold jewelry to add to your outfits, you can sell gold and have it boost your finances. Getting cash for gold will help you see your gold in a whole new light.

Bringing Home the Gold from the Olympics

The other day an article in the satirical news publication The Onion joked that President Bush had asked the U.S. Olympic team to bring home the gold, literally. The joke was not that he was expecting the athletes competing in this summer’s Olympics to return to the U.S. with gold medals, but that he literally wanted them to return from China with actual gold. The article didn’t give specific instructions about how the Olympic athletes were to go about getting the gold either. One can only hope that they were to procure the gold by honest means. But since articles in this publication are not real news, they do not have to be taken seriously.

The article spoof went on the note that the value of gold has increased and the president wanted gold because it would do a lot for the economy. All jokes aside, this part of the article does merit your attention. There is a lot of truth in that part: gold really is worth more now than it has been in years past. The good thing is that you do not have to travel all the way to China or compete in the Olympics to get gold. Surely, you have some gold right here at home in your own house.

And no one expects you to get and sell gold for the good of the country. You can sell your gold to a gold buyer for the good of your own personal economy. A gold buyer is interested in gold in various forms: gold bars, gold jewelry, gold nuggets, and gold coins.

Scientists Are Excited About Gold

Due to recent discoveries of more and more ways that gold can be used, chemists have a renewed enthusiasm for this very precious metal. Gold has long been valued in the art world and in society. This is not to say that scientist did not value gold before now, but rather they are looking on gold with even more appreciation than ever before.

There are been some really important advances in employing gold nanoparticles in chemical reactions like selective oxidation and hydrogenation. Scientists are also looking to whether or not gold nanoshells can be used to eliminate cancer cells.

Ever since it was found that gold acts as an very effective catalyst when it is divided into nanoparticles, chemists have had more and more reason to get excited.

You can get excited about gold and it doesn’t even have to be divided down to that very tiny level. It does have to be changed though. When you sell your gold jewelry to a gold  buyer, the pure gold will be extracted from other metals. They won’t have to get down to nanoparticles to do this, however.

Gold that is simply broken into pieces–be it a gold chain or earrings and gold bracelets with missing clasps can be a great catalyst for your finances. The value of gold has not only increased in the scientific world; it’s value and price have also increased in the financial world too. Sell your broken gold jewelry to a gold buyer and you’ll get cash for gold. That is definitely something to get excited about.

Why Eat Gold When You Can Sell It?

Would you really want to put your money where your mouth is? It seems that some people really would. A world-renowned financial publication set out to find the most expensive food in the world and can you guess what it is?

Is it caviar? No, although some kinds of caviar can cost as much as $1,500 a pound.

What about white truffles? True, truffles don’t come cheap, but at $6,000 a pound, truffles did not top the list.

What is the world’s most expensive food? Why, gold of course.

Edible gold leaf could set you back $15,000 a pound. Edible gold leaf even costs more than saffron, one of the world’s most expensive spices (it was number four on the list).

How is it that people can eat gold? Well, gold leaf is non-toxic. It can be used to decorate sumptuous desserts or sprinkled into fancy drinks. in some parts of Asia, edible gold continues to serve as medicine in some cases.

We do not advise eating your gold, even if it is edible. Why eat gold when you can sell it and get money for gold? Sure it might be fun to have a gold martini or a golden dessert, but once the meal is over, you’ll have little to show for it. Selling gold is one way to really make the most of what you have. A gold buyer will be more than happy to compensate you for your gold. Then you can take the money you got and buy dinner at a fancy restaurant if you’d like.

When You Sell Gold, You Gain

Earlier this week, we discussed how you should not let pride get in the way when it comes to selling gold when it has little sentimental value. The monetary reward that you receive when you exchange money for gold is well worth the lingering doubts about parting with it.

Two recent news stories have popped up that deal with people having to search for their valuable gold. Both deal with men who misplaced their wedding rings. Surely women lose their wedding rings too, but a lot of the stories that make the news talk about man losing this valuable piece of jewelry.

One man somehow managed to lose his wedding ring as he excitedly clapped at a football game. Amazingly enough, this man was not left bereft for very long: a jeweler in his area provided him with a new wedding band. We’re not sure what prompted such a gift of a precious commodity like gold jewelry, but we imagine that the man in question and his wife were very happy.

For those of you hoping to “lose” a wedding ring in the hopes of benefitting from the generosity of a sympathetic jeweler, surely there is another way. You don’t need to lose jewelry; you need to find some. Somewhere in your house there is some old gold jewelry that has fallen out of use (hopefully not a wedding band, though). You can take that gold jewelry and sell it to a gold buyer. That way, you will not have to lose anything. Instead you will gain cash for gold.
