The Value of Gold Coins

What is one gold coin worth to you?

One expert in the value of gold told a reporter that in the days of the Romans, one gold coin was the equivalent of a toga. He went on to say that these days the cash for gold that you would get for selling a gold coin would be enough to by a fairly good men’s suit. Perhaps is ancient Rome, you could just go and present a gold coin in the marketplace and receive a toga to replace it. Now, however, you much sell gold coins, get cash for gold, and then go out to buy what you want with the proceeds of the sale.

In tough times more and more people look for ways to store up savings and one of the ways they do this is through buying gold. And if you are paying attention to the news, you have likely heard conflicting reports about the value of gold. An online search may show one article saying that the price of gold is going up, while another article will dispute this. The truth is that gold has remained a valuable to sought-after commodity form ancient times until today. The price may fluctuate sometimes, but gold is never something that people want to throw away.

One analyst who specializes in commodities recently said that the fact that the dollar has recently gained some strength may camouflage the rising price of gold. Like everything in this world, the price of gold can get complicated. It is not always as simple as saying that gold and the dollar relate to each other like kids on a see-saw, with one going up as soon as the other goes down.

Overall, we are in difficult financial times. And if this causes some people to hoard gold then someone who is looking to buy gold may be trouble finding the amount that they want. This is why it is a good time to sell gold. It is an especially good time to sell gold if you are having trouble making ends meet yourself. There is not use in hanging onto your gold hoping the prices will reach some amazing level if you need cash for gold right away to take care of expenses. There is no shame in selling gold. And if you choose to sell your gold to an online gold buyer, you will not have to show your face anywhere. You can simply put your gold into a postage-paid envelope, mail it, and wait to receive your payment in the mail.

Lost Gold Ring is Found and Returned

It is always exciting when lost gold jewelry is returned to someone who lost it many years ago. Recently, two young boys in Texas chose to return a gold ring to its owner rather than keep that gold ring for themselves. This was very noble of them. These days it is all too easy for someone to play “finders keepers.” The man who lost his gold ring was surely glad to have it back, especially since it had been quite a while since he has seen it. The original owner of the gold ring in question is a man in his 90s who lost the ring more than 20 years ago while he was doing some work for his church.

It is amazing that this gold ring was found. It is also amazing that a man who may have been in his 70s was working to put in new playground equipment. The gold ring was lost as the man helped to install this playground equipment. The boys who found the gold ring were trying out a metal detector at that same church playground all these years later. Surely the man had given up the thought that he would see that gold ring again.

The gold ring had the man’s initials engraved on the inside of it. Part of the reason that the man treasured the gold ring so much was because it was given to him when he graduated from college in 1937. This was actually quite an achievement because fewer people went to college in the 1930s that go now. No wonder someone decided to mark this occasion by giving the man a gold ring.

This is a heartwarming story, but perhaps you have a different tale to tell. Maybe you have old gold jewelry, a gold ring, gold necklace, and gold earrings that were never lost. Although you still have these treasures in your possession, you might not exactly treasure them. They could be out of style, ill-fitting or may have even been given to you by someone that you are not exactly on good terms with anymore. In that case, why keep this old gold around if you really do not want it? You can sell gold to a gold buyer. Lighten your load and get cash for gold in return.

The First Lady’s Inauguration Night Gold Jewelry

Filed under: All Gold, Gold Jewelry Types — Tags: , , — GoldGuru @ 7:59 am

Before the 44th President of the United States was elected, all the fashion world was buzzing with talk and speculation about what the new First Lady would wear to the Inauguration and to the balls taking place that night.

With all that talk about dresses, people seemed to forget that no outfit is complete without jewelry.  Gold jewelry works well with almost any outfit. And there are so many types of gold—yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, just to name a few—that you are certain to find some pieces of gold jewelry that will go well with what you are wearing. Well, the new first lady, Michelle Obama, chose to wear gold jewelry for this momentous occasion. She picked gold jewelry that from a United States-based jewelry designer whose work as been featured in one of her favorite Chicago boutiques.

Once a public figure has worn a distinctive piece of gold jewelry, they are sometimes reluctant to be seen in it again. Not only that, many of the stars that you see wearing distinctive gold jewelry on television and at award shows do not really own the pieces of gold jewelry that they are wearing. Stars of the stage and screen often borrow jewelry that a jewelry store owner will hope to sell to someone else later.

In the case of Michelle Obama’s Inauguration night gold jewelry, it will be not be sold. The gold jewelry designed by Loree Rodkin and worn by the new First Lady will be given to the Smithsonian Museum for its permanent collection.

Stars like Rihanna, Kyra Sedgwick, and Avril Lavigne have also worn jewelry created by the same designer. To have Hollywood stars and now a First Lady wear your jewelry must be very exciting. The designer must be even more excited at the thought that her gold jewelry will grace the halls of the Smithsonian, where unknown numbers of visitors will come to see and marvel at how this gold jewelry complemented the outfit that Michelle Obama wore.

It is unlikely that you will be able to get the Smithsonian to take your old gold jewelry, no matter how momentous the occasion was when you wore it. Buy why give away your gold jewelry when a gold buyer is more than willing to buy gold from you? You can sell gold jewelry to get cash for gold.

Tour the Federal Reserve’s Gold Vault

Did you know that you can tour the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City? It seems like such an important bank would be off-limits, but they welcome you to take a guided tour. The bank offers a free tour that lasts half an hour. And as you can probably imagine, gold plays a big part in the day-to-day operations at the Federal Reserve Bank and in the tour.

In fact the tour begins with by playing a little joke on visitors as they wait to begin. The tour kicks off with a hologram showing a gold bar that slowly spins accompanied by an instruction to help yourself to some gold. It is actually surprising that the Federal Reserve would include this kind of humor for visiting guests, since they really do not want you take any of the gold there and there are stiff penalties if you do.

The bank also has a large number of unusual coins and other types of currency that is receive on loan from the American Numismatic Society. This collection includes a 1933 Double Eagle gold coin that was sold for almost $8 million at an auction no too long ago. The Double Eagle gold coin is one that was produced in limited quantities, so that makes it especially valuable.

In the days before September 11, the tour of the Federal Reserve included a visit to the trading floors, but that has since been cut out of the public tour. Instead, the bank has decided to make its gold vault the featured part of its tour.

The gold vault is located five stories below street level. There you can see gold bars stack in neat columns that reach the ceiling of the gold vault. Each of these gold bars is valued at approximately $320,000. Interestingly enough, ninety percent of the gold at the Federal Reserve Bank is the property of other countries.

Of course you don’t have to travel far beneath the ground to see stacks of gold bars to get a real idea of the value of gold. When you decide to sell gold to a gold buyer, you will be quite pleased to find that the cash for gold you get is in line with the current prices for gold. As we have mentioned, gold prices are going to remain strong in 2009.

Gold Prices Will Remain Strong in 2009

The Bloomberg Report noted that the price of gold is going to continue to rise in 2009 and added that this will be the 8th year that the price of gold has appreciated. Gold has made a very strong showing over the last 12 months and it is expected that this trend will continue in this new year. If you were unaware for some reason, gold is quite valuable at this moment in time. Although we not longer use gold to back our currencies, we still turn to gold when times get hard.

One financial executive told the Bloomberg Report that gold is a great insurance policy to insulate your finances and make you feel safer when facing the current economic crisis and worries about inflations. Many people have already made moves to buy gold since they feel that gold is a much safer investment than some of the other options out there. One reason why gold is such a solid investment is that you can actually touch it. People probably do not leave their gold bullion just lying around the house, of course. But still, they like the idea that gold is something you can see and touch at a time when there is a lack of confidence in trust in the stock market.

Another executive who works in the gold mining industry said that is confidence in gold remains strong and that the shaky economy has done very little to change this. Now what does this mean for you? It means that a lot of people want to buy gold and since gold foes not grow on trees, you can get some instant cash for gold if you sell gold to a gold buyer. There is a demand for gold and if you have some of the supply, you can benefit.

If you want to check out the price of gold for yourself, you can visit a website like www.kitco.com and get the very latest of how much gold is worth. That is one of the advantages of the internet—information is right at your fingertips. You do not have to puzzle out what the price of gold might be, you can find out what gold is selling for anytime you want. Just be aware that if you are selling gold jewelry and other objects that are made of gold mixed with other metals, you will be paid for the gold they contain and not for the weight of the entire object.

Charity Wine Festival Has Gold on the Menu

Now if I told you about a charity wine festival, what kind of items would you assume would be available for purchase of auction at such as event? I imagine that you would say that wine would be the main item on the auction menu at a charity wine festival. But what about gold? Would expect to see gold available to purchase at a charity wine festival as well? You probably would not associate gold jewelry with a wine festival at all.

However this is the innovative approach that the Naples Children & Education Foundation took towards raising money. We are imagining that the wine will be available to help participants to enjoy the event more. And who wouldn’t enjoy the opportunity to see beautiful pieces of gold jewelry, enjoy the warm weather of Florida (where the auction will take place), and know that you are helping charitable causes?

Some of the world’s most skilled jewelers have donated statement pieces of gold jewelry. These include an 18 karat white gold women’s watch and an 18 karat gold necklace from Bulgari. As you probably already are aware, Bulgari is one of the world’s most prominent and admired makers of gold jewelry.

The added bonus of this charity auction is that if you buy of the exquisite piece of gold jewelry that are up for auction is that you get a vacation experience in addition to a beautiful piece of gold jewelry. For example, the lucky person who places the highest bid of the 18 karate white gold necklace from Bulgari will also be the recipient of a trip to Rome. During this trip, the winner will have the opportunity to accompany members of the Bulgari family to the 2009 High Jewelry Gala. Not bad, eh? Surely the person who places the winning bid the 18 karate white gold Bulgari jewelry will get to enjoy some find Italian wine during their time in Rome.

Well you may not make it to the Naples Children & Education Foundation’s charity auction, but that does not mean that you can’t reap the benefits of selling gold. And you do not have to hold an auction and wait for the highest bidder. You can sell gold to a gold buyer, get cash for gold and perhaps use the proceeds to fund your own trip to a foreign destination.

Gold Coins from Times Past Go Up for Sale

It is amazing how certain things for times that seem so very far away from our own manage to be kept up until this point. Then again, we really do not know anything about the number of objects of value that have been lost, so who is to say what we are missing out on.

Just last week there was an auction of items from times past and some of the featured items were gold coins for all over the world. These gold coins have great historic significance and value.

One of these gold coins was a James I Rose Royal coin. It is believed that this coin was created at some point between 1603 and 1625. If you do not know, James I inherited the English throne from England’s first Queen Elizabeth, the daughter of King Henry VIII. This estimated 17th century gold coin has a estimated value somewhere between $18,000 and $22,000.

There were also eight Peruvian gold coins that were likely manufactured in 1715. These Peruvian gold coins were estimated to be worth $15,000 to $20,000.

The gold coins we have mentioned are obviously worth quite a lot of money. Part of the reason that these gold coins are worth so very much is that they have survived for so very long. These gold coins that were sold last week are from prior centuries, so the fact that they are still around is just amazing.

For one thing, gold has been continuously recycled since the very first gold objects were made. So the companion gold coins to the ones that were up for auction have likely been melted down by a gold refiner and made into something else. Much of the gold currency from other eras has disappeared without a trace. We have no way of knowing what happened to these gold coins.

Any gold coins you have can also be sold, and although they may not fetch the kinds of prices that the gold coins mentioned above likely brought in, you can still get a nice amount of cash for gold when you sell gold. As you know, gold coins increase in value as the years go by simply because they are still intact and have not been sold by someone who wanted to get money for gold.

The Other Golden Globe Awards

Earlier this week, we discussed the Golden Globe Awards which were given out this past weekend. After many years of using the same design, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to have a contest to call for designs for a new Golden Globe Statuette. The new statuette is topped with a globe that is plated in 24 karate gold.

Hollywood’s Golden Globe Awards are not the only Golden Globe awards that have existed. Because these awards are connected to the Hollywood film industry, they receive much more attention than any other Golden Globe awards would get.

The Sunday Times Golden Globe Race was held in 1968-1969 and its claim to fame is that most of those people competing in the race were not able to finish. Even worse, one of the competitors took his own life. The Sunday Times Golden Globe Race might have been continued if it had not been so beset with problems. It was the first round-the-world yacht race, but this first race was not the beginning of a continual sporting legacy.

It is too bad that the progress of the Sunday Times Golden Globes was hindered by so many problems. When it comes to arranging and organizing things, some endeavors have a much better start out of the gate than others. And in the case of the Sunday Times Golden Globes race, competing agendas and unclear parameter got in the way of what might have been a very promising competition.

If you pause to look around your home and think that you have yet to make the organizing progress that you thought you would make last year…that you promised yourself you would make at the beginning of this month when the new year started, it is not too late. You can clean up and get organized and you never know that treasures you may find as you pick up around the house.  Perhaps if you make the clean up into a competition, you can get your family members to lend a hand.

As an incentive, remember that you can take any old or broken gold jewelry that you find and sell it to a gold buyer. Then you can take the cash for gold you get from selling your unused gold jewelry and get yourself something nice. You certainly will deserve an award (and reward) for your efforts.

The New Golden Globe Statuette

Last night, Hollywood’s best and brightest gathered for the Golden Globe Awards. It is believe that getting a Golden Globe award puts a star on the path to getting an Academy Award. The Golden Globes are sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the past 65 years.

This year they decided to make changed to the statuette that Golden Globe winners have taken home since 1945. As is often the custom these days, the HFPA held a contest to get submissions for a new design.

This year, Hollywood’s Golden Globe-winning actors and actresses will take home a globe with a filmstrip wrapped around it. This globe of gold rests on top of a cup made of gold and the golden globe and golden cup sit on a marble base. The globe is not actually made entirely of gold, but it is plated with 24 karat gold. This new Golden Globe statuette weighs 5.5 pounds, is 10.75 inches tall and the marble base that holds it up has a 3.5-inch-wide-base.

It is a good thing that the globe on the new golden globe statuette used gold as plating and not as its primary material. That would make the award quite heavy and only the very strongest would be able to take the award home.

No matter how much they love their awards, over the years there have been reports of stars of their estates selling awards like the Golden Globe. It is hard to say what kind of price something like a Golden Globe statuette will get on the market. It’s condition, age, and recipient are probably big factors that weigh into the price such an award will get if it is put up for sale. An old Golden Globe award that is for an obscure category or one that is not in good condition may be garner very much money.

In contrast, you can sell gold that is in less-than-perfect condition to a gold buyer with no worries and get cash for gold. When you sell your old or broken gold to a gold buyer, it is not being sold for display or bragging rights. Instead, it is being sold so that it can be melted down and used in other ways–perhaps even as part of the gold plating on the new Golden Globe statuette.

Fabulous Gold Jewelry Showcased in “Bride Wars”

The stars of the brand new film Bride Wars, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, are being much admired for the gold jewelry that they wore in the film. Of course that gold jewelry probably did not belong to either of them, but since they are the stars of the movie, they are given the credit for what is probably the costume designer’s great taste in choosing gold jewelry that would accent the actresses’ best features.

Before the movie was released to the general public movie critics and others in the media  already had the chance to see it. IF you want to see the fabulous gold pieces in “Bride Wars”,” fear not, it is just about to come down the aisle and arrive in theaters. Now that I have heard in advance that there is some eye-catching gold jewelry on display in the film, I am going to try to remember to look out for it.

Some in the media thought very highly of the gold bracelets that Anne Hathaway wears in one scene. In a different scene, Kate Hudson wears a gold necklace that is a scene-stealer all on its own.

In the movie, these two young actresses play best friends who end up becoming rivals when they learn that their weddings, both planned for the same venue that the two have dreamed about since childhood, are booked on the same day. This mistake has the turns the friends into bitter enemies. What happened to ‘Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.’ as it says in the old song, a song that the movie’s characters probably sang as little girls?

Beautiful gold bracelets and stunning gold necklaces notwithstanding, gold really is not something associated with brides as much as it used to be.

Our mothers and grandmothers just had to have gold rings when they got married. Real yellow gold–none of that fake stuff. But these days engaged couples shy away from yellow gold. They often prefer platinum and sometimes white gold.

Fashions come and go, but one thing that never goes out of style is cash. And you can get cash for gold when you sell old, unwanted or broken gold jewelry to a gold buyer. In fact, if you have an old gold wedding ring from a relative that you are willing to give up, you will find that you will be rewarded quite well with cash for gold should you decide to sell it.
