Movie Stars’ Gold Jewelry Sold at Auction

Yesterday at a charity auction in Los Angeles, the gold jewelry of famous Hollywood stars was put up for auction.  This was gold jewelry that notable women like Charlize Theron, Goldie Hawn and Angelina Jolie had worn. Also up for auction was gold jewelry that was designed by celebrities with the help of a jeweler. This second group of jewelry had been worn at the last Golden Globes award ceremony.

When you are a star, you really can’t just sell gold the way non-celebrities can. Well, you can in some cases. But more often than not, it is expected that if you are putting something up for sale, especially a sale at an auction, then you are doing it to benefit a cause other than yourself. Movie stars sell houses and other assets all the time, but if the media found out that an A-lister was selling gold jewelry that was not some highly-priced heirloom, people might begin to talk. They say there is no such thing as negative publicity…but a movie star would not like to invite speculation about why they were selling gold.  Although we are in a recession, so it is possible that people might not think too badly of movie stars (who they consider to be rich) selling things like gold jewelry for money that they would then keep.

If you are not a star of stage and screen, then you are not likely to encounter public scrutiny for selling something like gold jewelry. You will not be under pressure to maintain an image of wealth or sell gold and donate the proceeds to charity. You can sell your gold jewelry and get cash for gold that you can keep and spend (or save) as you wish. There is no need to put up a façade or worry about what other people might think. Sometimes we all need to get some extra money and selling gold, be it gold jewelry or gold coins or gold dental work, is a good way to do this. But just in case you are concerned about being seen, know that you can sell to an online gold buyer without a lot of fuss. You will not have to visit a pawn shop or have anyone witness the transaction. You can contact an online gold buyer from the privacy of your home and they will send you a postage paid envelope that you can mail in an no one has to know.

Scientist Use Gold to Create “Super” Products

As always, the scientific community continues to amaze us with the uses they find for gold. We non-scientific types like to wear gold in a decorative way and sometimes when we find that we no longer want it for decoration, we sell gold.

Scientists, on the other hand, are continually looking for ways to make use of gold to aid industry and improve health. A team of forward-thinking researchers at Cornell University have found that gold nanoparticles can be combined with DNA to create superlattices. Using DNA for structure and support, they have combined it with gold to create sheets that are about 20 nanometers thick.

once they have done this, they put the entire thing into a water-based solution. Then they let the solution evaporate. Now, you may be wondering why they would do such a thing, after all, you certainly are not interested in seeing your gold disappear (well, at least not unless you are doing something like exchanging it for cash for gold). The scientists believe these gold superlattices can one day be used to manufacture electronics.

If that sounds vague to you, allow us to tell you about another innovation that had been created with gold. Researchers in Australia have managed to create a super-DVD that used gold nanorods. This DVD has the capacity to hold onto 2000 more information that the DVDs that are on the market today.

Small particles of gold have an infinite amount of power and possibility. No one knows this better than a gold buyer. They know that if you present them with even the smallest piece gold, such as an earring or a bracelet, they will be able to extract pure gold from it. And since gold buyers are in the business of buying gold and not mining it, they look to you to help them get pure gold. Extracting gold from gold that has already been mined means that less energy is spent on mining, a practice that some feel is not environmentally friendly. Scientists are working to make the most of gold, shouldn’t you also benefit from some of the power of gold? When you sell gold that you no longer want to hold onto, you may not be creating some great brand new product, but you are certainly making good use of what you already have and there is something inventive about using what you’ve got.

The U.S. Military Awards Silver and Gold Stars

The U.S. military issued award stars in cases where a person has earned multiple awards of the same kind. In a way, the stars act as a kind of shorthand. For example, someone would get an award star instead of getting a second Legion of Merit award. This even applies in cases when someone is going to get more than two awards. If someone were slated to receive three Achievement Medals, they would get the first Achievement Medal along with tow gold award stars. Members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard tend to be recipients of award stare, which are also sometimes called Gold Stars and Silver Stars.

Did you know that in military circles the silver star is the award of higher prestige? A silver award star is given in place of five gold stars, so you would get a silver star for your 6th award, then for the 11th and after that for the 16th. This is the custom in the U.S. military, even though it is not the order of things in the civilian world. The military reversal of the traditional value order for gold and silver is surprising.
Although both silver and gold are highly valued, we tend to think of gold as being the precious metal that is worth more. After all, although silver and gold have backed currencies throughout history, gold is the metal that had been sought after much more than silver. This is not to devalue silver, however. There is a lot of demand for silver, just there is for gold. You can sell silver just as you can sell gold. A gold buyer is happy to take either one and give you cash for gold or cash for silver.

Even though an honor such as the Silver award is of higher prestige this in no way diminishes the use of gold for another very special military award. National Public Radio reported that People who are the offspring of people who lost their lives in military service in Iraq and Afghanistan have been given special gold medals. Certainly the meaning of these medals goes far beyond the price of the metal used to make them since they are created to honor the memory of fallen soldiers. Still, as you can see, the medal chosen for these awards is the one that associated with higher honor in the civilian world.

Take Advantage of the Rising Price of Gold

Experts in the gold market foresee great things in gold’s future. In fact the are predicting that the price of gold will continue to rise in the coming months. Some believe that the price of gold may even climb so far as $1,100 an ounce.

For the most part, we are not happy to see prices rise. Last year, when gas prices were skyrocketing, no one was thrilled. And although they have gone done recently, they are starting to creep back up and that is not good news for many of us, especially as the summer travel season is about to begin.

One of the reasons that we are not thrilled to see prices for anything go up is that we are not in a position to make a profit. You have to buy your gas, groceries and clothes from someone else. It is they who are likely to gain (although there is not guarantee of that). Still, you spend a lot of time handing over you money to other people (and they in turn do the same). Don’t you want to see what it feels like to have someone give you money for something that you have to sell?

When it comes to the price of gold going up, this is an area where you can profit. You can sell gold and reap the reward of having something to offer that is in demand. It is not very often that you have an opportunity such as this. And–here is the even greater thing–the product you are selling need not be brand new. How often can you sell something that is old, worn, or used? If you had a garage sale to sell old things, you have to let them go at bargain rates. Even if you put your old gold jewelry out at a garage sale, you have to sell it for a pittance. If you sell gold to a gold buyer, you are likely to get more than a pittance.

And you do not have to worry about overhead costs or the price of doing business as a real manufacturer would. You can get cash for gold using gold that you already have around the house. You won’t have to use an psychology or work really hard to sell gold: a gold buyer wants your gold, so you already have a willing customer.

Colorado Commemorates its 1859 Gold Rush

Colorado is hoping that its gold mining past will bring in a gold rush of visitors and tourism. To commemorate 150 years of gold mining officials in that state have come up with a travel itinerary that connects some of the towns that sprang up as a result of the gold rush. Some of the towns that are taking part in this effort are Boulder, Black Hawk, Idaho Springs, Fairplay and Leadville. That last town does not exactly have a name that lends itself to thoughts of gold, but that does not mean that there was none there.

Just as San Francisco had its famed 49ers, the Colorado area’s gold seekers were called 59ers. Last month, the Pioneers Museum in Colorado Springs opened up a new display that pays homage to the Pike Peak Gold Rush of 1859. Although the 49ers were first in their adventurous gold seeking, the 59ers had to be just as bold. After all, these areas were still a part of the frontier. Those who went looking for gold were not only not certain that they would find gold, they could not count on finding much of anything but uncertainty. And even if they found gold, they could not get cash for gold quite so easily as a person can today.

Is it possible that history could repeat itself? The economy was not doing so great in 1857 when the first of approximately 100,000 hopeful gold prospectors made their way to the Rocky Mountains in their quest to find gold. Sounds familiar doesn’t it?  And now Colorado is hoping that people will return to the area to seek gold history.  They are not really counting on people to go hunting for actual gold. Still, you never know, so it is possible that some of those who walk the same trails that the hopeful gold rushers walked.

If you don’t think that you can make it over the California, but still want to strike it rich with gold, why not sell gold? You don’t need to do any mining or spend any time in the hot sun when you already have gold that you can sell. There is a thrill to finding a gold treasure, but it is just as thrilling to find that you can get cash for gold when you sell the gold that you already have.

Don’t Hold Onto Heartbreak: Sell Gold From a Break Up

Not too long ago, a major publication published a comparison of two pop songs—one recent and the other from another era. The writer looked at the song “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” sung by Beyonce and “Band of Gold” sung by Freda Payne.  In both songs, the women sing about separating from suitors, but for very different reasons. In the Beyonce song, she is telling a man that if he really wanted her, he would have given her a ring, perhaps a gold one or maybe even a platinum ring, since platinum has come into vogue in popular culture. Freda Payne had a different story: she did get that gold ring, only to find that the promise it was suppose to symbolize wasn’t all it was  cracked up to be. Perhaps, after some reflection, the woman singing in the song would have decided to make the most of what she had left by deciding to sell the gold ring to a gold buyer.

If you have gold jewelry, then you probably know that gold is long-lasting…in fact it can outlast some commitments.  Some of you may have found that some of your gold jewelry, while it still has its luster and shine, does not hold the same place in your heart that it used to at one time. Money can never replace what was lost or soothe all of the pain of a broken heart, but that does not mean that you need to hold onto the remains of failed relationships.

In f act, hanging onto a gold necklace or gold ring from someone you are no longer connected to may only serve to prolong your pain. Some people are able to put these things away and forget all about them. Then, years later, these people will have the joy of coming across what will be old gold. Maybe you have recently found some gold jewelry that you got as a gift from someone that you have long since forgotten. You can sell this gold and get cash for gold. Some of you, on the other hand, will not have such restraint. You will remember exactly where you put that gift of gold jewelry and you may even keep sneaking to that drawer to look at it and lament. If this is you, you might be much better off if you sell gold or sell platinum jewelry and get it out of the way. A gold buyer will be happy to assist you in your quest to get over the heartbreak.

Winslet and DiCaprio Have Friendship, Causes and…Gold Ring in Common

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have shared the screen twice as a couple in memorable movies. First there was their unforgettable pairing in Titanic, the movie that helped cement their status as Hollywood stars. Years later, they went on to star in Revolutionary Road, directed by Winslet’s husband, Sam Mendes. The first time around they were star-crossed lovers who didn’t get to find out what happens after the honeymooon. In their second onscreen relationship, they showed that marriage was anything but a honeymoon, sparring as a couple who have seen their dreams fade in suburbia. In their second movie together they show that exchanging bands of gold is no guarantee. Gold may last forever, but sadly, some relationships do not.

Although their onscreen pairings did not weather the storm, Winslet and DiCaprio have managed to remain friends in real life. The duo combined forces to pay health care expenses for one of the last survivor’s of the Titanic shipwreck. And although their one of their onscreen marriages did not get to the gold wedding band stage and the other could not survive it, the two remain close. So close in face that Kate Winslet actually wears a gold ring that DiCaprio has given to her. While it is not a gold engagement ring or a gold wedding band, it does have an inscription, one that Winslet refuses to reveal. Winslet says she wears this gold ring alongside the wedding ring she received from her husband. She also notes that her husband, has also become good friends with DiCaprio. The men cemented their relationship while all three worked on the movie Revolutionary Road.

It is intriguing to hear that Kate Winslet was given and wears gold jewelry from a friend and fellow thespian next to her wedding ring. Some of you out there may have gold jewelry that you do not cherish quite so much. You would like to wear it, but it does not have pleasant associations. At the same time you cannot just throw it away or give it to someone else. That is okay. Rather than hide it away so you can’t see it, why not sell it and get some cash for gold? A gold buyer cannot mend a broken heart or erase memories, but when you sell gold and reap the benefits you may find that you feel a  whole lot better.

There’s No Place Like Home…When It’s Cast in Gold

Filed under: All Gold, Gold Jewelry Types — Tags: , , — admin @ 5:00 am

A while ago we told you about how an innovative jeweler found a way to turn sound into sight by making gold versions of people saying “I do” so that one could have a visual reminder of someone’s declaration of love. He used cast the waveform of a sound recording into gold.

There are a lot of things that have been immortalized in gold. Thanks to a creative jeweler in France, buildings, both iconic and average, can be cast in gold. Using 18 carat gold, this jewelry designer has plans to make miniature versions of some classic specimens of architecture. Some of the samples that have already been displayed include a gold ring that depicts the Prieure Saint-Roman in France and another piece of gold jewelry that shows the Manhattan skyline.

In addition to creating pieces of gold jewelry that are recognizable, this jeweler also makes custom pieces. Making use of satellite technology, the jeweler can make miniature gold replicas of a customer’s home.  This is much more efficient than if the jeweler had to travel to a customer’s home. Before satellite technology came into play, a jeweler might have been able to recreate a house or any other object using a photograph.

Now with building jewelry, you can take your home with you wherever you go and even show it off, if you like. No one has to know that your gold ring or the gold charm on your bracelet is a small version of your house, unless you want to tell them. We have a feeling that people who have this kind of gold jewelry custom-made will want to let people know just what their jewelry symbolizes.

Some of you, on the other hand, love your homes, but have no interest in carrying them with you. In fact, you probably would like to have a little less home in your home. What do we mean? We mean that you would like to get rid of some of the clutter and items that are taking up space in your residence. Getting rid of unnecessary items starts with you. There is no one else to do it. You can start with going through some of your old gold jewelry. When you see just how much cash for gold a gold buyer will give you when you sell gold jewelry that you have just left lying around, you will get excited. This will give you incentive to do even more straightening up.

Sell Gold and Reap the Benefits of Cash for Gold Now

Filed under: All Gold, Gold Jewelry Types — Tags: , , — GoldGuru @ 6:32 am

You know what they say…you can’t take it with you. And rather than be maudlin or depressed about this idea, why not get the most out of what you have now? For example, if you keep your gold locked away, but not in use, what good does it do you? It is quite possible that you will forget about it and then years later someone else will find a way to get cash for gold from the gold that you kept, but did not use.

On a recent visit to a museum, I was able to see some rather impressive gold items on display. One of these, a huge gold medallion that belonged to an ancient king shows intricate carving and fine craftsmanship. This gold medallion still has string tied to it, so we can assume that it was meant to be worn. In circumference, it is bigger than a large bagel. That is a lot of gold to carry around all at once.

But now, centuries after some king proudly strolled around demanding the reverence and loyalty of his subjects while wearing this large gold symbol of his power, it sits in a display case.

The same is true for the gold carving that sat on top of a staff—it was also beyond reach in a display case. The item description explained that staffs such as the one on display were used to signal the power of a ruler’s spokesperson. When kings in this culture went out into public, they did not stoop so low as to speak to people themselves. Instead, they would have a spokesperson take on the task of actually speaking to the people. The staff with its ornate gold carving indicated to the people that the king’s spokesperson was someone worthy of respect. And the gold carving itself illustrated a proverb that the people would recognize and understand. (It really was a large carving.)

We know that it is unlikely that your old gold jewelry or gold coins will end up in a museum, although you never know…While we are glad that we can benefit from seeing ancient gold and learn some history, we know that you might want to benefit from your gold now in the present time. Sell gold to a gold buyer, rather than let it collect dust in your home or end up on display years from now.

Don’t Forget that May is Gold Month

In case you did not know, May is gold month. And while there will be a lot of organizations that want to sell gold to you, we are one of the few that is willing to let you sell gold to us. And just think—you will not have to mount an advertising campaign or pay for commercials or newspaper ads. You get to sell gold without any overhead costs or having to hire any salespeople.

There is a $2.5 million campaign being launched to remind the general public that gold lasts and remains something of high value. In fact the theme of this campaign is “Only Gold Grows More Precious.” And this is true because gold is something that really cannot be destroyed. It can be melted down and reshaped, but not destroyed. It also does not corrode easily and can weather exposure to chemicals that might cause another metal to break down. Unlike paper money, gold will not get worn down and seem to disintegrate after being handled by many people.

In some countries, people’s entire wealth is tied up in gold. Young women get sets of gold bracelets and these bracelets do not simply represent their personal wealth, they are their personal wealth. If times should get hard, the women know that they can sell the bracelets. And using gold for personal wealth is not just for women: there are countries where people sometimes work out deals to finance their home purchases using gold. This is because the country’s currency is rather volatile, but banks are willing to take gold. This is because as the gold month campaign says, gold is one of the few things around that continues to grow in value.

Songs, poems and stories also attest to the lasting value of gold. No one talks about their aluminum years; its golden years. No one claims that something is as ‘pure as titanium’ or ‘pure as lead’. It is gold that is used as the hallmark of purity and lasting value.

You can take advantage of the lasting value of gold when you sell gold to a gold buyer. So you can resist all of the tempting pieces of gold that people want you to buy and get cash for gold when you sell your gold.
