Lately there has been talk in the news of a debate among collectors of Barbie dolls: Should Barbie be left in the box or taken out of the box. We certainly do not know how to answer this question. What we do know is that id she is wearing a 24 carat bracelet as she is in the 50th anniversary edition, that gold bracelet deserves to be seen.
This special edition Barbie doll also has some white and black diamonds to go along with her 24 carat gold chain bracelet. That is a lot of expensive jewelry from a woman made of plastic. This is not your little girl’s Barbie. The ones that I remember only had plastic rings. They didn’t have bracelets at all, much less bracelets made of 24 carat gold..
Some of you may be thinking–hey, I don’t even have a 24 carat gold bracelet, much less white and black diamonds! But wait, are you sure. Some of us have so much stuff we forget all that we have. You may not have any white and black diamonds just lying around the house, but you likely have some gold jewelry that you have forgotten about. You may have gold that was given to you as a gift, but you did not like it so much. You may have gold jewelry that used to be your favorite and you used to wear it all the time until at some point it fell out of favor and you left it unworn.
If you want new gold jewelry, you could just go out and buy some, but why keep bringing more things into the house? Instead, sell gold that you are not using and use the cash for gold you get to buy gold jewelry that you will want to wear now. You are not Barbie, so you need not debate whether or not you should be seen. If you want some new gold jewelry to show off, give some to get some when you sell gold to a gold buyer.
These days it can be hard to tell what is real and what isn’t. We all know that fool’s gold is not real. But what about gold coins issued from a place that we are not sure is real? Can real gold come from a not-so-real place?
In 2008 the sovereign nation of Wirtland was founded and it is the world’s very first (and as far as we know, only) internet-based country. It provides all of the things that land-based nations provide such as opportunities for citizenship, passports, residence permits and identification cards. AT the moment, this internet-based country has more than 650 citizens who hail from land-based countries all over the world.
Like other, more traditional countries, Wirtland has decided to launch currency in the form of 24 carat gold coins. Although you cannot visit Wirtland or set foot on Wirtland soil, you can buy gold coins from there. These gold coins are not intended to be used to make purchases, instead they are more of a collectors item. We have collectors gold coins issued in our own country, but we also have coins that people use for commerce. As real as the nation of Wirtland wants to be, one has to wonder why it only has collectors coins. Then again, one might also wonder why an internet-based country would need gold coins at all…
Wirtland’s gold coins were designed by a coin designer who has also created statehood quarters for our own country. Wirtland’s gold coins bear the country’s coat of arms and a gold purity stamp. The Wirtland gold coin also has an image of a crane. In fact, these gold coins are called cranes.
We are not sure what is in store for the nation of Wirtland, but we do know that its gold coins seem to be quite real. Interested parties can buy these gold coins on the internet, the same place where the country resides.
You can also use the internet to sell gold coins that you have in your possession to an online gold buyer who is quite real. You may not be able to see the gold buyer, but rest assured that he or she is a real person who operates a very real gold refining facility that sits on actual land.
In our culture when someone does something that is worthy of praise, we may say that this person deserves a gold star for whatever it is that they have done. The notion of a gold star harkens back to elementary school when teachers would put stickers of gold stars on a pupil’s paper to let that pupil know that he or she had done a good job. This academic seal of approval was immediately recognizable. If you saw a gold star on your paper, you knew that you had earned kudos from your teacher.
In India, it is not children that are being rewarded with gold, but their mothers. And when we say gold we are not talking about some little gold sticker. We are talking about real gold—the precious metal. Gold is worth quite a lot these days.
Although we do not seem to have a lot of official policies regarding names in the United States, other countries enact policies or try to encourage people to give their children names that are in line with that country’s cultural heritage.
Mothers of newborns in Bengal can get a gold ring if they give their child a traditional name. The gold rings that they receive are made with one gram of gold. There is a panel who meets about every two weeks to go over the names of recently born babies to decide which mothers will get a gold ring for adhering to tradition.
So far officials consider this program to be a success–more than 250 women have been given gold rings. No doubt the lure of gold may have swayed some mothers from choosing non-traditional names. Although it is quite possible that all of the women who were given gold rings as a reward had already determined to give their children a name that reflects traditional values, regardless of the program.
When you sell gold you are rewarded with cash for gold. And just think–you don’t even have to have a baby to get this reward. You just have to have some gold that you no longer wish to keep.
A museum in Jerusalem was happy to announce that gold items that had been stolen in the 1980s have now been returned and some will be out on display. The LA Mayer Museum for Islamic Art has been without these treasured gold pieces since 1983.
Among the stolen, but now returned items are: a gold pistol clock that was made in France, a gold pocket watch that was dubbed the “Marie Antoinette”, and gold musical snuff boxes. The museum plans on displaying the gold time pieces that have been returned as part of a “Mystery of Lost Time” exhibit.
Why was a gold pocket watch named after the famous, yet sadly doomed Queen of France? We cannot say for certain. We only know that it was named for her, but have to evidence that she used or commissioned a gold pocket watch. But we do know that this particular gold clock, along with many other pieces in the recovered collection, was made by the master clockmaker, Abraham Louis Breguet. Marie Antoinette was known to be an admirer of his work. So it makes sense that he would name one of his gold clocks after her. Maybe it was a tribute, maybe it was a way to gain her favor, who knows? If you know anything about Marie Antoinette, then you know that she had very fine taste. A clock made only of the finest precious metal would do, so it is fitting that a gold clock bears her name.
Marie Antoinette aside, the most amazing part of the story is still the fact that after all these years, the museum was able to get all of these items back. As you know gold is quite valuable and lately the value of gold has been climbing rather than declining.
Keeping this in mind, don’t you think it is time that you dig through your own treasure trove of gold to see if you will be able to sell gold? It is museum’s job to hold onto old items that are not being used, but you don’t want to live in a museum do you? Your family and friends are not paying an entry fee to see all of your old stuff. If you want cash for gold, you have to sell gold.
Many of us wear gold in the sense that we put on gold bracelets, gold earrings, gold rings and other jewelry and adornments made from gold. But very few of us have garments that are actually made from gold. Imagine if we did though—it is hard enough remembering to clean your gold jewelry. What would happen if you needed to clean an entire garment made of gold?
A designer from Dubai has created what has been called his “masterpiece” –a wedding gown made using gold. A woman’s wedding day is huge for her and many women spare no details or expense when it comes to celebrating this special time. Bearing the importance of that in mind, the designer from Dubai made a wedding dress from one of the world’s most celebrated precious metals: 24 carat gold. Whether or not any woman will actually wear this gold dress to celebrate her wedding remains to be seen.
This is not the first garment made from gold created in recent times. There was also a dress made of 24 carat gold filigree. This gold dress actually weighed 2 kilograms. It was seen on display in India last year. Just so you know, a kilogram weighs more than a pound–a kilogram is approximately 2.2 pounds. Someone wearing a gold garment such as the gold filigree dress would not be weighed down so much that it would be a burden, but such a garment would require more energy to wear than the average dress.
Although it would be fun to see gold creations such as these, they hardly seem to fit into every day. In fact, some of you may be more interested in having someone take some gold off of your hands rather than acquiring more gold. You do not want to collect more gold, you want to sell gold and lighten your load. That is fine, we understand. It is fun to fantasize about amazing gold creations, but at the end of the day gold has practical as well as decorative uses. A gold buyer will be more than happy to help you with that. As beautiful as gold is, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. And when you sell gold, you are not simply giving it away. You will be getting cash for gold in exchange for the gold that you sell.
If you watch the auction world, it is always amazing to see what people can sell if it was touched or used by a celebrity–chewing gum, tissue and all kinds of items that we would normally throw away can command big bucks if they were used by someone of a certain status.
But how often can it be said that something that was intended for use by someone well-known commanded a lot of money at auction? Well, some sunglasses that were rimmed with gold so that astronauts could wear them as they traveled through space aboard Apollo 13 sold for thousands of dollars not too long ago. It is not clear if any astronauts wore this gold-accented sunglasses, and if they were worn in space, it is not clear who wore them. Even without the knowledge of who used them, the gold-rimmed sunglasses still sold for $18,300.
You most likely are very familiar with astronauts like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from the Apollo 11. The travelers on Apollo 13, James A. Lovell, John L. “Jack” Swigert, and Fred W. Haise are not quite household names, but a phrase from that mission is very well known. The Apollo13 mission gave us the phrase, “Houston, we have a problem.” It was also the subject of a 1995 movie that was directed by Ron Howard and starred Tom Hanks and Keven Bacon.
Gold was not used on these sunglasses to give them shine or because astronauts only command the best. Gold, as decorative as it is, has some very practical applications when it comes to space travel. Gold is applied to the visors on astronauts’ helmets because it can act as a barrier to protect the astronauts’ eyes from ultraviolet light.
You may not need to apply a layer of gold to your sunglasses this summer, since you are still on Earth, but that does not mean that you cannot use gold for protection. The gold you have around your home–gold coins, gold earrings and other gold jewelry–can provide you with a financial barrier and protect you when times get tough. While a gold buyer may not pay the kind of prices that the gold-rimmed sunglasses garnered at auction, the cash for gold you do get when you sell gold can be very helpful.
For years now, the medical community has been telling us that we rely way too much on antibiotics. Of course, some members of this same medical community were the very ones prescribing so many antibiotics in the first place, but now it seems that they have changed their tune. As always, you do better when you know better. So while they thought that antibiotics would help improve some people’s health, doctors now know that you really can have too much of a good thing. Some people have actually experience adverse affects from taking too many antibiotics.
Scientists want to find alternatives and help us stop turning to antibiotics when we don’t need them and they are looking to gold to help accomplish this change of habit. No, we can’t use gold as a cure for what ails us medically–although if you get cash for gold after you sell gold to a gold buyer, you may feel better–but gold can speed up antibiotics. If scientists can make antibiotics more efficient by using gold, then those people who do need to take them, can take then in smaller amounts and for shorter periods of time.
At the National Chemical Laboratory in India, they are looking into how gold nanotechnology can help antibiotics get the job done quicker. Yes, it takes tiny particles of gold, not comparatively huge gold earrings or gold coins to complete this work. In fact, these researchers are working with something they refer to as “gold salt”. They are mixing gold salt with antibiotics and water. The goal is to ensure that the antibiotic is absorbed by the body more efficiently. It also does not hurt that nanoparticles of gold have their own antibiotic properties as well. The gold nanoparticles support the antibiotics as the antibiotics are sent to targeted areas of the body.
Having tiny particle of gold as backup can make a big difference in how well antibiotics get the job done. For those of you who have gold to sell, you know that have some gold around as a backup can make a big difference when you need an infusion of cash.
Of course this gold salt method is still in experimental stages. There is no word on how soon they will have perfected this technique or when some people will be able to brag about having gold in their veins.
Some folks are not really aware of the connection between law and commerce. It is funny that people do not always see just how the two are linked because laws are made all the time that either help or harm businesses in ways no one could have predicted. Some news outlets recently reported that it is now legal for citizens of South Africa to own gold bars. If you want to sell gold, this is good news for you because conditions that increase the demand for gold are good if you want to sell gold. When people want gold, gold buyers want to be able to sell it to them, but an increased demand can put a strain on their resources.
While you will probably not be able to sell gold directly to anyone in South Africa, you can sell gold to an online gold buyer. And really, it is easier that way, because you don’t have to be bothered with international law or trying to transport gold across the globe. Just contact an online gold buyer and they will send you a postage-paid envelope so you can send in your gold.
The first signs that the restrictions on gold ownership were being eased came in 2005 when the South African parliament decided to allow minted god bars to be manufactured. That was four years ago and now the government has clearly stated that South Africans are permitted to own gold bars.
South Africans were last allowed to own gold bars since 1911, so it has been a long time since the average person was allowed to have a bar of gold of their very own. The government first clamped down on individual ownership of unwrought gold and gold bars in 1908, but this law was not put on the books until 1911. Just in case anyone had forgotten, South Africa’s Mining Rights Act of 1967 reiterated the fact that citizens of that country were not allowed to own gold if it was unwrought or in a gold bar. Having gold in this form became a criminal offense after the Mining Rights Act was passed.
This is not to say, however that Sough Africans were not allowed to own any gold at all– quite the contrary, actually. Citizens of South African were allowed to own gold jewelry and gold coins. And we doubt that there were any limits placed on just how much gold jewelry or gold coins a person could own.
Many municipalities–be they towns, cities, states or entire countries–have found that making a verifiable claim to an important historical event or artifact can be like striking gold. If you can get people to recognize the historical significance of your region, you can get tourists to come and spend their money in your town. The acclaim, prestige and revenue that come along with being able to make such a claim make it worth the effort it takes to pursue some kind of historical designation.
While we all know that California is the site of the United State’s most famous gold rush, few of us are aware that other states can also claim being the sites of gold rushes that attracted substantial numbers of people seeking gold. For example, this past spring, the state of Colorado had celebrations to commemorate its 1859 gold rush.
Colorado does not really have any concerns about its historical claim to fame because its gold rush took place well other gold rushed. There is, however, a town in Georgia that does have some reason for concern since its assertion that it is the very first place people rushed for gold is being contested by another town that is not too far away.
It is easier for you as an individual consumer. You can sell gold and get cash for gold without having to be concerned about trying to bring in tourists or getting media coverage.
The battle is brewing in Georgia because both Dahlonega and Villa Rica want to be able to claim the designation of being the town that had the country’s first gold rush. It has been widely believed that Dahlonega deserved this distinction. But Villa Rica says that this is not so. It is said that gold was found in the Georgia town of Dahlonega in 1828. (So, as you can see, the discovery of gold in Dahlonega pre-dates the well-known California gold rush of 1849 by a couple of decades.) Years after it happened, in 1917, a historian from Atlanta wrote that the town of Villa Rica had gold prospectors come to the town to find gold in 1826. And yet this documentation is not really enough. In order to give Villa Rica the distinction it wants, someone would need to present documentation or proof that was composed during that time.
The good news for you is that you do not have to be the first to arrive at a gold buyer to sell your gold. Gold buyers continuously want to buy gold, so they will welcome you.
If you are a frequent reader of this blog, then you know that we remain fascinated by all of the ways in which scientists make use of gold. Gold has chemical properties that make it very useful in research, so while it looks beautiful, it is also works very hard.
Here are just some of the ways to gold has been used for technical applications–
-Gold nanowires may one day be used to power electronic devices.
-Scientists are trying to see if gold nanoshells can be used to get rid of cancer cells.
-Researchers are trying to find a way to use gold nanoshells to fight drug addiction.
-A super-DVD with powerful memory has been created using gold nanorods.
-Gold nanojewels (which as created when gold nanoparticles are suspended in water) may be used to help delivery medicinal drugs into a person’s system.
The use of gold and gold nanoparticles may seen very high-tech, but you may be surpised to learn that use of tiny gold particles goes all the way back to the Middle Ages. In that era, artisans used gold particles to create some of the beautiful images seen in stained-glass windows.
At least one expert notes that gold nanotechnology has been instrumental in getting the general population to pay more attention to science. The fact that scientists are using this precious metal to help fight disease and get to the bottom of medical mysteries attracts the interest of people who may not have been drawn to learn about medical science otherwise.
So in that sense, the gold is doing double duty. It is being used to creative innovative tools to keep up healthy and it is acting as a beacon to gain people’s attention. In this instance, gold is working overtime to gain attention for scientific research and to help make that research as success.
Your gold may not have had to work so hard, and yet you still may feel that it is time to let it go. After years of shining brilliantly, your gold necklaces, gold earrings and gold rings may be ready to retire. And what does one do at retirement? Why, you cash in on all the equity you’ve been earning of course. You can get cash for gold when you sell gold to a gold buyer.
