As we all know, everything must change. It would be great for things to remain as they have been, but that is not possible. When something is up for demolition, this usually means that its useful days are over. The fact that the decision has been made to get rid of it says that people are pretty certain that there is nothing left to be done with it and they would rather destroy it and start over that deal with it in its current state.
A site in Canada that stopped being a gold mine in 2003 was slated for demolition to possibly make way for a geothermal plant. This gold mine had been in existence since 1938 and during that time it produced a lot of gold–more than 160,000 kg. And so it seemed that this gold mine’s days of producing gold were over. It had been determined that there was surely a better use for the land, so the demolition process began.
But as crews recently learned, its days of producing gold are not quite over yet. As they proceeded with the demolition, workers came across about 1,400 ounces of gold. And this was not surprise to one mining expert who felt certain that some gold-rich ore still remains to be found among the buildings at the former mining operation. What has been unearthed so far is estimated to be worth over a million dollars. That is not bad for a mine that is no longer in operation, is it?
Maybe you have some gold jewelry that has become worn or has seen better days. Perhaps due to some accident, your gold jewelry has become twisted or broken, but you have not been able to part with it, despite its broken state. You can still get some use out of your broken gold jewelry when you sell gold to a gold buyer to get cash for gold.
As we mentioned earlier this week while discussing gold pacifiers, there is a time to keep gold and a time to sell gold. No matter how much we like a gold item, we may find there comes a time when we want to part with it and accept cash for gold in its place.
In December, a gold ring that once belonged to a famous actress is going to be auctioned. After the actress died, her step-son inherited a gold ring that Marion Davies, a silent film star during the 1930s, received from William Randolph Hearst.
It is interesting that the gold ring that Hearst, who was Davies’s lover at one point, gave his beloved a masculine ring. The ring is not a delicate testament to feminine beauty, but a gold ring that was designed to be worn by a gentleman of means.
Who knows what exactly the ring meant to this pair of lovers? After all, the ring was made a jewel that came from a brooch that had been Davies. The meaning of this unique piece of jewelry may have died with Hearst and Davies.
We do know that while you perhaps do not want to sell gold if it would break your heart or cause you serious regret, you probably have some pieces of old gold jewelry that you really do not treasure all that much; you just have not gotten around to getting rid of it yet. A gold buyer can help you with that, making it easy and convenient to sell your gold. Contact an online gold buyer and they will send you everything you need to get your gold evaluated so you can get cash for gold.
Those who watch pop culture in the United States have observed that over the last few years babies have become hot accessories. We don’t want to be flip, but yes, cultural critics have felt as if the baby boom in Hollywood is somehow related to a trend and not natural population growth.
We really cannot say whether or not this is true. People have children when they do and since Hollywood is like a small town that every focuses on this may seem to be a trend, when really it is just the cycle of life.
What we can say is that in recent years baby accessories (and not the babies themselves) have gotten more and more press. But this may not be new either. People have probably been trying to top each other with extravagant baby gifts since the time of the pharaohs.
So we were surprised to hear that a very costly baby gift, one made of gold, had gone on sale, not in Hollywood, but in Dubai. Then again, gifts made of gold to welcome babies have been traditional in this part of the world for quite a while.
It seems that the best dressed babies in Dubai can add 18 carat gold pacifiers to their outfits. We imagine that such a gift would become a family heirloom that might be passed on to other family members.
Or, as is the case with the gold bracelets that some women in this part of the world get when they get married, a gold pacifier could act as an insurance policy against hard times. Someone might hold onto a gold pacifier and if they recognize the value of gold, they could sell gold to a gold buyer if hard times hit.
Recently, at the food counter of one of those department stores that also sells food, shoppers were surprised to find that that pretzels being displayed were not for sale because they were not real. They looked real, but had been placed out front to give people an idea of that they could buy. In this case, the disappointed was compounded by the fact that the store had run out of real pretzels, so the very edible-looking fakes were for “show” in more ways than one.
People in the business of selling food are not the only ones who are in the habit of displaying items that look like the real thing, but are not. A jeweler in Toledo, Ohio was surely dismayed recently when he learned that thieves had broken into his store. But he might take comfort in the fact that what the thieves stole was not real gold jewelry, but fake jewelry that he placed in his display cases to demonstrate to customers how the real gold they might buy could look.
Since the thieves made off with the fake rings, they are likely congratulating themselves on what they think was a successful caper. Not being able to distinguish actual gold from other metals will be a problem for them, however, if they try to sell what they stole. The jeweler told the media that the stolen rings were made of brass not gold and that they worth less than a quarter each.
When it comes time to sell gold to a gold buyer, you may not be certain exactly what your gold is worth and that is okay, You do not have to figure this out for yourself. When you contact an online gold buyer, they will send you a postage-paid envelope. You just slip your gold in there and mail it off. The gold buyer will test your gold and let you know how much cash for gold you can expect.
If you are fortunate enough to travel to Osaka, Japan this holiday season, you may be able to see gold ornaments designed to resemble the characters in one of Disney’s most enduring classic films: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s very first full-length animated feature film and it took hundreds of artists to complete the movie.
The gold ornaments were commissioned because this classic film is now being released on Blu-ray. Snow White has certainly come a long way from the movie houses where it was shown in 1937. Despite our many advances in technology, this film that uses hand-drawn animation still represents the gold standard for animated films–everything from the characters to the music is still considered top notch.
These gold ornaments are going on a little tour, so they will start in Osaka, Japan and will more to some other stores in Japan before the Christmas holiday.
You may have some gold ornaments and figurines of your own that you have, but are not displaying because they no longer interest you or do not fit into your current decorating scheme. Perhaps they were gifts from someone that you felt obligated to keep, even if you just keep them in a drawer or a box somewhere.
If this is the case, why not clean house and sell gold objects that you really have little use for to a gold buyer —we promise we will not tell. There is no point in keeping these things if you are going to hide them. You can much more with the cash for gold you can get than you can with gold objects that are simply collecting dust. You will feel much lighter and may even start to “Whistle While You Work” because the extra cash for gold you get will put you in a really good mood.
Last week, while perusing Twitter, I saw that a friend had posted something about selling gold jewelry. (And yes, this is a person I actually have met in real life). She was bragging about how she had sold some old, ugly gold jewelry and had received much more cash for gold than she had expected.
Now is a great time to sell gold because the price of gold is much higher than it has been in quite a while. It is an especially great time to sell gold jewelry that you consider to be old and ugly. Why hang onto to gold jewelry that you really do not like or even want. The holidays are coming and you will want to make room for newer and better godl jewelry. Besides, you can beat that holiday season cleaning and purging rush by getting rid of your old gold jewelry now.
My friend used the internet to brag about selling her gold jewelry, but you can do more than that– you can actually use the internet to sell your gold.
An online gold buyer makes it easy and convenient to sell gold jewelry. Just contact an online gold buyer and let them know that you have gold jewelry that you would like to sell. They will send you a pre-paid envelope and you can place yout jewelry in the envelope to send it for testing. Then, your work is done. The gold buyer will test your jewelry for gold content and then send you back the cash for gold that you so richly deserve.
Once something has an established name, we often give little thought as to its origins. For example, the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, which consists of many museums and is a great resource for learning and education was not founded by someone with then name “Smithsonian”.
The Smithsonian Institution is named for James Smithson, a wealthy and rather mysterious man who gave the funding to start the institution. Smithson, who had never even been to America, left unspecific instructions in his will asking that the money has was giving to the United States be used to ‘increase and diffuse knowledge.’ Smithson’s fortune was first to go to a nephew and if that nephew died with no heirs, it was then to be bequeathed to the United States.
When that money arrived here in the 1830s, it did not come as dollars or a check. It came as 105 bags filled with gold. The gold that Smithson left to American was melted and was valued at between $50 million and $100 million dollars.
No one is completely sure why Smithson willed his money as he did. We know that he was a somewhat resentful illegitimate son and that his riches did not take away the sting of being rejected by his father. Perhaps he liked the idea of America as a place where people could start over. Maybe he admired the country’s revolutionary spirit in rejecting English tyranny.
We do know that those bags of gold that Smithson left have enriched and enhanced many lives in the years since his death–probably much more so than he could ever have imagined.
What will you do with your cash for gold? Many people sell gold because they have hit hard times, but we know that this is not always the case. Perhaps you are looking to a gold buyer to help you gain funds for philanthropic endeavors.
The value of gold is not only monetary, although it is hard not to think of gold solely in terms of money since the price of gold has risen rather high lately. There are some amazingly gorgeous items that are without price, but gold is certainly not one of those things. The value of gold changes frequently and recently it had climbed, so if you think you want to sell gold, now it’s a great time. The reason that gold can garner such high monetary value is due to the fact that gold is so very beautiful.
A German artist knows this very well and that is why she used 24 carat gold, combined with colored oils to make some very unique artwork that will be available for view at the Royal Academy of Arts in London during the latter part of this month. Inge Borg-Scott applied the 24 carat gold and colored oils combination to aluminum discs. We are not sure what exactly inspired this artist to use gold in this way, but we like to see creativity like this.
Rare artworks like this are the kind of item that one would have to think very carefully about selling. However, if you have gold jewelry that you once found beautiful, but rarely have the opportunity to wear now because it is not longer in style or you just don’t like it very much, you need not hesitate to sell it to a gold buyer. There is no need to hang onto gold items that you no longer find beautiful. The gold itself retains its beauty, of course, but if you no longer find that way it is shaped to be pleasing, there is no need to keep such gold items around.
On Monday we discussed how the legend of Captain William Kidd makes him seem larger that life, when in reality he may not have been all that we have been lead to believe.
At one point, Captain Kidd had collected twenty for treasure chests tat contained gold, silver and other valuable items. Now as we all know, pirates tend to bury their treasure so they can come back to get it, since they cannot take all of it with them. But have you ever heard of a pirate getting a receipt? That is supposedly what happened with Captain Kidd–he buried his gold and other treasures in a swamp on John Gardiner’s land and Gardiner gave him a receipt.
The first question you might ask is–wasn’t Kidd afraid that Gardiner would just dig up the treasure for himself? With his terrorizing reputation, Kidd probably feared little and promised to kill Gardiner if told someone about the treasure.
Kidd was not able to see whether he would have to make good on that threat because he was arrested not long after depositing his gold and other valuables in Gardiner’s swamp. Gardiner may have had his own designs on the gold, but he could not keep it for himself because the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony insisted that the treasure be turned over to the government.
Years later, people still are trying to find what they hoped would be some of Kidd’s gold that may have remained buried. There are legends that Kidd told others where some of his treasures were and that all of it was not turned over to the colonial government.
You need not dig through swamps to find gold. It is likely that you have gold somewhere visible in your home that you do not really use. Unlike, Captain Kidd, you are free to sell gold to a gold buyer and get cash for gold.
Like many pirates of old, Captain William Kidd exploits have been embellished over the years, so that it becomes hard to separate fact from fiction. In fact, in seems as if Captain Kidd’s adventures were exaggerated even during his lifetime, so that we really have little way of knowing what may have actually occurred. There were no reality television show crew following him around and those who knew him were not likely to say or write a whole lot about Captain Kidd or his treasures for fear of retribution.
According to some historians, Kidd earned his place in history after spending about a year, from 1698 to the summer of 1699,wreaking havoc in New York harbor. According to some, all he amassed during that time was close to 90 pounds of gold, silver and other precious stones. Kidd’s gold and other items were said to have been collected into twenty-four treasure chests.
Now most of use would certainly find a way to use 80 or so pounds of gold and other precious items. These days one does not have to search far to find a gold buyer, in fact you can sell gold to an online gold buyer without ever setting foot in a store. So we are not saying that Captain Kidd didn’t do much. We are just noting that in comparison to other pirates, his gold treasury is considered to be rather small. In fact, it may be his legend an reputation that are worth their weight in gold, rather than the actual amount of treasure that Captain Kidd captured.
Come back on Wednesday to learn why Captain Kidd probably did not see any cash for gold in exchange for his gold treasury.
